The birth of a new era, the Era of Oestrogen.

No, it’s simply because testosterone makes men physically bigger and stronger. Unfortunately, testosterone has nothing to do with intelligence but, the power it delivered to men to swing a club, gave men the power to make the decisions, good or bad. And men have been swinging the club ever since. Where has it led us? Despite great technological advances, we still have millions starving, recurrent wars, oppression and the inability to deal intelligently with critical issues such as climate change. We have the means and ability to positively impact all these problems, but we have not. Why? It simply comes down to bad decisions. Bad decisions built on greed and ego and fuelled by testosterone. Decisions made by men.

That’s why, at this critical point in history, it’s time for women to take the reins and make the decisions, better decisions. It’s time for the Era of Oestrogen, an era where women take the lead. While an interesting theory, how could this possibly happen? Surely men aren’t going to take a step back and hand over their power? By and large, no, they won’t. Despite there being some men who will support this concept, the vast majority will not. Not only will they not support it, they’ll be horrified at the thought of it.

So, if the reins will not be given, they will have to be taken. How? The answer is in the hands of women. And it must be all women, not just a determined few. At every single opportunity, women must support other women. Remember, it’s not that long ago women did not even have the vote and, ironically, that’s the answer to launching the Era of Oestrogen.

Elections for School Council? Vote for a woman. Local Government? Vote for a woman. State and Federal Government? Vote for a woman. And the voting doesn’t end there. When it comes to women voting with their dollars, women must support companies who have female leaders. They can start where they spend the largest proportion of the household budget, the supermarket. Find out which supermarket has a female CEO or the greatest number of female board members and senior staff. Watch how quickly boards start to promote and appoint women when they see how it affects the bottom line. When spending money elsewhere, select companies run by women and shops that display the Era of Oestrogen symbol. Will these simple actions change things overnight? No, but they will definitely change things over time. It may take a lifetime, but a single lifetime is nothing compared to the many thousands of years men have ruled.

Is this a movement against men? No, Era of Oestrogen is a movement encouraging and supporting women who, for far, far too long, have been treated as an underclass, as second-class citizens. Even today, women still struggle to get equal pay and are too often passed over for promotion simply because of the toxicity that permeates the patriarchy. The same toxicity that leads to one woman dying at the hands of a current/former partner or male family member every ten minutes. That’s 50,000 women killed worldwide by men each and every year. It’s long overdue, but now is definitely the time, the time for a new era, the Era of Oestrogen.
